In Pictures: Manchester live screenings of the Queen’s funeral

Hundreds of people attended live screenings of the Queen’s funeral in Manchester city centre today to pay tribute to the nation’s longest-serving Monarch.

Three public screenings of the service took place at Manchester Cathedral, Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square.

Mourners were encouraged to gather together in the city centre to mark the funeral of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Spaces for up to 10,000 and more people at three different locations were arranged to show the live TV coverage from 9am this morning.

Vue in the Printworks was among cinemas showing the service on their big screens.

There were be two outdoor screens, at Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square, as well as an indoor viewing at Manchester Cathedral.

Stephen Keefe, 64, former Royal Engineer, said: “She’s done a great service for the country, I was just happy to serve her.

“We couldn’t make London, but it’s nice here anyway. We just wanted to be part of something.

“There’s no place in the world where you can get anything like this. I’m just happy to be here and be a part of what’s going on.”
