A 40-year-old cyclist is in critical condition after he was found collapsed and unconscious on a busy dual carriageway in Bolton on Thursday.
Police believe the cyclist was injured when he fell from his bike in Moss Bank Way, near Berkeley Road, Astley Bridge, at around 10.15pm on August 15.
The man was being treated by members of public, when a police officer on patrol came to the scene.
Detective Inspector Christopher Walker from Bolton said: “One of our officers was on a routine patrol last night and came across this man collapsed on the floor being treated by members of the public.
“It was clear he had come off his bike, but we are now trying to establish the circumstances leading up to this.”
He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital with serious head injuries and his condition is described as critical.
Police are not ruling out the possibility that someone else was involved, and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward to establish how this man came to receive his injuries.
“If you were in the area last night and saw this man riding his bike or witnessed the accident please contact the police with any information,” DI Walker said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5761 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
