Mum finds HYPODERMIC NEEDLE buried in loaf when making son’s sandwich – sick Salford man now jailed

By Chris Bailey

It was like something out of a horror movie for one mum who was making a sandwich for her young son  only to find a hypodermic needle buried in it.

And now the bizarre Salford man who hid the syringe in the Tesco loaf of bread has been jailed for 12 months.

David Rodgers, 62, of Cumbrae Gardens, plead guilty to product contamination after the woman found the hypodermic needle buried in a Tesco loaf.

Following a shop at a store in Pendlebury, she prepared a meal for her son before coming across the dangerous object.

DNA was sampled from blood on the syringe, leading to Rodgers’ arrest – who outrageously claimed he did not know what his intention was.

It later emerged in court that Rodgers was addicted to heroin and was hiding the blood-stained syringe from his wife.

Detective Inspector Chris Mossop said his force worked closely with Tesco and its suppliers to bring him to justice.

“Obviously the person was shocked to find a syringe inside a loaf of bread but thankfully they were not hurt,” he added.

“We have demonstrated that a complete disregard for safety, whether anyone has been injured or not, will be looked down upon and acted on by the courts.”
