Karen Danczuk is to step down as a Rochdale councillor at the next election.
The mum of two and wife to Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has been councillor of the Kingsway ward since winning a majority of 1,458 in 2011.
But today the 31-year-old, who has courted controversy throughout her career for posting revealing ‘selfies’ on social media, announced via Twitter that she will stand down at the next election.
It is believed that Ms Danczuk will be pursuing media opportunities after recently hiring media campaign company Ginger Comms, who promise ‘mass media exposure for big brands and cool people’.
She said: “Over the past year, I’ve been running a business, bringing up two children, taking on board other projects and being a ward councillor.
“There’s only so many hours in the day and I can no longer dedicate the time required to best meet the needs of my constituents. I’ve really enjoyed my time as a councillor and it’s a great honour to represent people locally.”

Ms Danczuk cited better street lighting, improved roads and new housing for her Kingsway ward as three of her key achievements that she was most proud of.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and I’ll be campaigning hard for the next Labour candidate in May,” she said.
The councillor managed to rack up £1,000 in just one week by flogging signed selfies on eBay last month.
