If you thought Christmas Eve was all about that last dash around the shops to get the remaining presents, you might be wrong.
Only 10% of the Manchester’s residents say they will still be finalising their shopping on December 24, according to a recent survey.
The study, carried out by Premier Inn Manchester, also shows that the majority of the city’s shoppers (67%) spend the day at home relaxing with only 4% of Mancunians drawing the short straw and having to work the day before Christmas.
As the city is home to some of the finest places to shop in the country a mere 28% of Mancunians chose to complete their Christmas shopping online.
Families coming together under one roof have been known to spark a row or two, but research shows that more than a quarter of Manchester residents insist they never have to endure a family feud.
However, on the big day more than one third of Manchester households argue over what to watch on the television.
Simon Bennison, from Manchester, said: “People in Manchester love nothing more than a good Christmas get together with family, friends and pets.
“The only thing we fall out over is what to put on TV. I personally want to watch Johnny Cash’s Christmas, my mum wants to watch Strictly Come Dancing, whilst my Dad just wants to get out to the pub.”
The Northern Quarter is one of the city’s popular destinations all year round but becomes even busier in the month of December when 23% of people suggest going to a restaurant in the vibrant area.
Deansgate was also revealed as a hot-spot for its atmosphere and decorations, whilst Spinningfields was voted the most family-friendly part of the city.
The research also revealed that on Christmas morning 5% of Mancunians were woke up by a parent, sibling, or even their pet.
