Gangnam Style singer PSY was filmed on the toilet during his hit music video and it seems the South Korean singer is not alone at multi-tasking as a survey reveals that North West adults are more likely to have taken ‘toilet selfies’ than anyone else in the UK.
The survey discovered that one in twenty adults in the North West had gone potty for taking pictures of themselves on the toilet, more than 44% had sent a text while 41% had made a phone call.
International charity WaterAid carried out the survey to mark World Toilet Day which raises awareness of the struggle faced by 2.5 billion people around the world who have nowhere safe to go to the toilet.
Chris Wainwright, Head of Communications at WaterAid, said: “Mobile technology is opening up a generation gap in Britain’s toilet habits.
“Toilet multi-tasking is becoming the new norm. We’ll never be able to look upon the ‘urgent call’ in the same way again.
Researchers also revealed that those aged 18-24 are six times more likely to use their phone when on the throne than those over 55 and almost twice as likely to have spoken to a loved one when nature called.
A whopping 57% of adults in the North West have gone to see a man about a dog in front of a partner, although have waited on average six to seven months into the relationship before going crossing that line.
Mr Wainwright added: “Despite the importance of sanitation, more people have access to a mobile phone than a toilet.”
“It may not be a sexy subject, but we want to get the world talking about toilets, because toilets save lives.
“Across the world, 2,000 children die every single day from diarrhoea. That means while you’re on the toilet five children will die because they don’t have one.
