A vegan catering trailer will soon be rolling into town to feed Manchester and the North West’s poor and homeless, thanks to a Rossendale-based Hindu charity.
The Prasad Project aims to feed the poor and homeless and provide vegan taster sessions and cooking classes throughout the UK.
It was set up by The Shiva Trust, a registered charity run with Hindu philosophies by spiritual leader Satguru Sri Ramana Devi.
More than £23,000 has already been donated to the trust and work is underway to develop a second hand Luton van into a vegan food distributor.
A Shiva Trust spokesman said: “We have received £23,400 so far, it has been fantastic. Someone donated £21,000 which is our biggest donation ever. It has been a huge success.”
The Project has so far provided 5,000 food items to homeless people and community groups in Manchester this year.
It aims to use the converted trailer to provide 4,000 hot meals to those in need before the end of the year.
The charity also plans to hold a shoebox collection on Christmas Eve for homeless people in Manchester centre.
