A 31-year-old woman was struck in the legs by dog chains before being subjected to a ‘horrific’ sexual assault in Stockport last week.
The incident occured on Cambrian Road in Edgeley on Wednesday December 10 at around 7pm.
The woman was walking alone, before being confronted by a man who struck her in the legs with a dog chain before pinning her to the floor.
Surprisingly, another man appeared at the scene soon after and stopped the attack, before both males fled towards Avondale Road and out of sight.
Detective Constable Colin Teasdale said: “This woman was subjected to a terrifying ordeal at the hands of her attacker, who pinned her to the floor and sexually assaulted her.
“Clearly she is extremely distressed and we are offering her whatever support she needs.
“I do not want to cause any undue alarm in the community but it is important we warn people what has happened so they can be on their guard and vigilant particularly as the nights draw in even earlier during the winter season.”
Officers have released evofit pictures of two suspected males and are now appealing to anyone who recognises either man to come forward.
“Despite her horrific ordeal, she has still had the courage to work with our forensic imaging specialists to produce two evofits of the two men so I would urge people to look very closely at the images and if you do recognise either of these men then please tell us,” DC Teasdale said.
“I would also like to appeal for the second man who remonstrated with the offender to stop the attack, to come forward.
“If you do see anyone acting suspiciously or you think you spot these two men then please call us immediately.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
