A 61-year-old stroke victim was robbed by two thugs who pushed him to the ground in Prestwich, causing him to hit his head on the pavement.
The attack took place on Friday November 7 at around 6pm under the tram bridge near to the junction of Windsor Road and Meade Hill.
The victim, who was returning from a shopping trip in the city centre, lay struggling on the floor after banging his head on the pavement, as the two men rifled through his pockets and snatched a bracelet from his wrist.
Detective Constable Colin Langstroth said: “This was a targeted attack against someone the offenders knew had little chance of defending himself.
“These thugs spotted weakness and exploited it ruthlessly. Then they left this poor man shocked and helpless on the floor with a cut to his head.”
Police are now appealing to the public for information to help hunt the two thugs.
Detective Constable Langstroth added: “Unfortunately the victim did not see his attackers and could not provide a description, which is why it is so important that anyone who was in the area at the time should come forward if they believe they have any information that may assist out enquiries.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
