Horrific meat cleaver attack: Manchester man’s face sliced open – partially blinding him

A horrific meat cleaver attack in Manchester has left a man partially blind.

Two men burst into the 34-year-old victim’s home, on Daisy Bank Court in Newton Heath, Manchester, on October, 10 around 5pm, and launched a ‘brutal’ attack.

The victim was repeatedly punched in the face as he tried to escape, and then tried to run out of the house, on to Tetlow Street, but tripped over and fell.

While on the floor, the second man then sliced part of his face open with a meat cleaver, leaving him a fractured cheekbone, partial loss of sight in one eye and a 20cm wound to his face that needed more than 40 stitches to close.

The two assailants then fled in a small black car with two white stripes running over the bonnet and the top of the car.

Detective Constable Andrea Holden-Cullum from Greater Manchester Police, said: “This man was the victim of a brutal, vicious attack that has left him with life-changing injuries.

“Not only has he lost partial sight on his eye, but he will also be left with a huge scar such was the voracity of the beating he sustained.

“Such violence is completely and utterly unacceptable. There can never be any justification for using a meat cleaver to slice someone’s face open and we need to find the offenders as soon as possible.

“I am aware they may be rumours in the community about comments this man may have made leading up to the attack, but I want to assure people we have investigated that incident fully and found no evidence of any criminality.”

What we need to do now is focus on this crime and the fact this man has been savagely assaulted.

Police are now appealing to anyone who may know anything about the horrific attack.

One of the men was white, 5ft 11in tall, of a chubby build and in his mid-30s. He had short blonde hair and blue eyes and was wearing a grey and white T-shirt with grey jogging bottoms and black trainers.

The second man was also white but quite tanned, in his early 20s, 5ft 5in tall and of a thin build.

He had short black hair which was spikey on top, blue eyes and dark stubble on his cheeks. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt, black jeans and white trainers.

Det Const Holden-Cullum added: “In particular, I would like to appeal to anyone who either knows who is responsible for this attack or who saw two men getting into this car.

“Perhaps you may have seen this car being driven at high speed at about the time of the incident. If you do know anything, then please come forward with any information you may have.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3521 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
