Thugs launch bottle at moving car in Bolton, then viciously attack driver with meat cleaver – police seek witnesses

By Neil Robertson

Police are hunting two men who threw a glass bottle at a moving car in Bolton – and attacked the driver with a meat cleaver when he got out to confront them.

The attack happened at 11:45pm on March 28, when the 19-yearold driver and his passenger were driving through Tonge Moor Road in a Volkswagen Polo.

After the bottle hit the car’s wing mirror, the victim got out of his car when he was confronted by the men.

One man swung a meat cleaver at the driver, while another man smashed the rear car window with a brick.

HORRIFYING: Pair attack driver and passanger with meat cleaver

The victim’s cheek was cut as his assailants repeatedly swung at him with the meat cleaver.

The driver was then dragged out of his car while the men assaulted his passenger, before they got in the Polo and drove off.

The men then abandoned the vehicle and ran in the direction of Tonge Moor Road.

Detective Constable Dave Harris, based at Astley Bridge Police Station, said that both men were understandably ‘shaken’ by this attack.

He has asked the Greater Manchester community to help bring the attackers to justice.

“The offenders showed extreme aggression towards their victims and they are lucky they did not suffer more serious injuries,” he said.

He added: “We believe this was a random attack and I would ask members of the community to be vigilant.

“We are unsure why the Polo was abandoned a short time later and we are asking for witnesses to come forward.

“The two images we have are very clear and I believe that someone within the local community will recognise them.  If you do, we are keen to speak to you.”

Police have released two images of the men following the incident.

One man is described as being dark skinned, 6ft tall, well built, in his late teens or early 20s, with short light brown hair.  He wore a grey hooded top and dark coloured jeans.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5749 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
