Bolton family of five jump from window of burning home to escape ‘arson’ attack

A suspected arson attack forced a Bolton family to jump from the first floor window of their home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The family of five – including a tot of just three – were awoken by their fire alarm shortly after an unknown offender set fire to the front door of their house on Jedburgh Avenue in Heaton.

Emergency services were called to the property at around 2:30am on December 12 and the family were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital.

Detective Sergeant Rob Parker said: “We believe an accelerant was used to start this fire, which could very easily have killed all inside, had they not been alerted by their smoke alarm and managed to escape.

“To be woken up to find a fire raging at your front door must have been absolutely terrifying for everyone involved and we need to find the person responsible.”

The home was badly damaged from the flames and smoke but luckily there were no serious injuries following the incident.

Det. Sergeant Rob Parker added: “If anyone saw anything or knows who did this I would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5761, 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
