Thousands of aspiring actors are heading to Manchester this weekend as they attempt to play the lead in the new Star Wars movie.
The auditions have been moved to the Emirates Old Trafford so they can cope with the demand after thousands flocked to the open auditions in Bristol last week.
The change of venue is to allow the casting directors to see more auditions but long queues are still expected but that’s not putting off James Martin, 22 from York, who’s preparing to queue from 4am Sunday morning.
“While the chances of getting through are going to be quite slim this is an opportunity of a lifetime and I’d be crazy not to give it a shot,” Mr Martin said.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to meet the casting directors but I am also aware that I will have to make a lasting impression to stand out.”
The auditions are attempting to cast the two lead roles of Rachel and Thomas who are described as smart and athletic.
Thomas is also described as a young man in his late teens to earlier twenties and Mr Martin is fascinated by the character’s background.
“He grows up without a father and whilst he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself he is capable and shows confidence when needed.”
Physics graduate Mr Martin is not the only who can’t wait for the auditions on Saturday and Sunday thousands of people have taken to twitter to express their excitement.
Twitter user @JamieScoins who is coming from Hull tweeted: “Very excited to attend the Star Wars: Episode VII open auditions in Manchester next week. Huge step and very bold move for my acting career!”
Manchester is one of three British and Irish cities hosting auditions as well casting sessions across the USA so chances are slim but this isn’t putting off one Manchester actor.
@JayCurtisLiburd said: “Open auditions for Star wars 7 in Manchester tomorrow. Got to take every opportunity as it comes upon you.”
