A well-deserved pat on the back was given to Manchester Aquatics Centre staff after they saved the life of a young woman last month.
The 21-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest as she was taking part in an activity at the Manchester Aquatics Centre on Oxford Road.
Employees at the Aquatics Centre rushed onto the scene calling emergency services and as they were waiting, used a defibrillator on the woman.
General Manager at the Aquatics Centre, Andrew Smith, said: “They responded with great speed and professionalism to help the young lady when she collapsed.”
As a result of their fast responses and bravery, the woman is expected to make a full, healthy recovery.
One month on from the event Manchester City Council invited the fearless staff to a reception in honour of their valiant efforts at Manchester Town Hall.
The reception was attended by the Lord Mayor of Manchester who spoke of the heroic men and women and said: “The staff at the Aquatics Centre kept calm heads in what must have been a truly horrifying situation.
“Their actions on that fateful day in October helped saved the life of a young woman and prevent what would have been a devastating tragedy.”
