Manchester Oktoberfest celebrates 10th anniversary

Oktoberfest celebrated its 10th anniversary in Manchester’s Platt Fields Park on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 October.

The event first came to the city in 2014 and welcomes more than 10,000 Mancunians to the festival annually.

The beer festival originated in Germany in 1810 after the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen – but now Oktoberfest events take place around the world.

“Oktoberfest is a vibe, like I’ve been to it in Germany, I’ve been to it in Denmark, I’ve been to it here – it’s just a general vibe that people have here that they don’t have anywhere else,” Booking Manager for Oktoberfest, Anika Busk Damm said.

Many people who attend dress in traditional Bavarian clothing, such as Lederhosen and Dirndls, and this year was no exception.

Plenty of authentic German food and beer were on offer in the iconic blue and white tent again this year, with plenty of bratwursts to go around.

Music also filled the Oktoberfest tent, with feel good songs played by a live band for the entire night.

Manchester’s Oktoberfest is now one of the biggest in the UK and, while a date hasn’t been set yet, there are already plans to bring the festival back next year.
