Woman in Trafford arrested on suspicion of modern-day slavery

A 51-year-old woman was arrested in Altrincham on suspicion of modern-day slavery offences.

The arrest comes as a result of two properties in Trafford receiving closure notices from Greater Manchester Police working with The Council’s Community Safety, Trading Standards and Environmental Health Team.

Trafford Council is continuing to work with partners to crack down on offences relating to modern-day slavery across the borough.

A man was subsequently arrested for breach of closure notice at the second property in Stretford.

Inspector Scott Wolstenholme of GMP’s Trafford district said: “We have made arrests in connection with this type of crime which severely exploits people’s rights for someone else’s gain and understand it’s an unreported issue.

“We want to make it clear we are determined to continue to tackle this head on in conjunction with the Council’s additional enforcement.”

The office of Stretford and Urmston MP Andrew Western, received a tip off about the properties from a member of the public leading to the subsequent arrest.

Trafford Council website released a statement stating: “We are committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in our corporate activities and to ensure that our supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking. We are committed to the highest level of ethical standards and governance.”
