As the rising cost of living hits homes, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to implement more safety precautions to fight against fires.
As part of the newly introduced Home Fire Safety Week this week, the forces across the UK are offering practical help and advice to help Greater Manchester residents stay safer in their homes.
Many people are struggling to make ends meet due to the cost of fuel, and GMFRS want to help households by helping them find new ways to stay warm without going up in flames.
To help even further the force offers a free Online Home Fire Safety Check tool and is encouraging people to sign up to the national product safety alerts and recalls to check and register their appliances to help identify hazards in the home.
An online check can determine if people are in need for a Home Fire Safety Assessment, which GMFRS say will help them can rest easy knowing it is under control.
Anyone in need of a home visit can complete and submit an online referral form and the GMFRS Contact Centre will be in touch to make an appointment carried out by local firefighters.
The head of prevention at GMFRS said: “Prevention is at the heart of our Service’s work, and we are here to help.”
GMFRS is also running a campaign to support NFCC’s Home Fire Safety Week by highlighting the importance of fitting and testing smoke alarms in the home, as well as escape planning.
