Pensioner, 92, punched in face during Tameside burglary by man who smashed into kitchen with brick

A 92-year-old man was punched in the face by a burglar who smashed through his kitchen window with a brick early this morning looking for cash.

The vulnerable pensioner was stood in his kitchen at around 6am when a man approached the back door of his home on Meadow Lane, Haughton Green.

When he smashed through the window he climbed through – punching the victim in the face when he tried to fight back.

The pensioner tried to retaliate further but the offender managed to break away to search his house for money – before grabbing cash and leaving.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was charged with robbery and attempting to escape from lawful custody.

The victim suffered a cut to the face but was not seriously injured.
