Domino’s pizza delivery man ‘lured’ into trap by fake Wigan order then thrown from car by knife-wielding robbers

By Matt Scrafton

A Domino’s pizza delivery man has been left terrified after he was ‘lured into a trap’ by knife-wielding robbers who stole his car in Wigan – and police are still hunting his attackers.

The incident, which took place on Wednesday March 20, happened on Prestt Grove in Worsley Mesnes between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

The 24-year-old victim was lured to an address on the false pretence of a pizza order before two men then held him up at knifepoint and thrown out of the car.

PC Paul Hamilton, of West Wigan Neighbourhood Office, said: “The young man was just trying to do his job when he was confronted by a knife-wielding robber.

“They clearly set him up and lured him into their trap. These are desperate criminals who are not above threatening or using violence to steal.”

The victim approached the address only for the occupants to inform him they had not made an order and there must have been some mistake.

He walked back to his car, a green/blue Vauxhall Corsa, but was then approached by two males who told him to get out of the car while threatening him with a Stanley knife.

The victim was then thrown out of the car, with the two men getting in and driving off. He was found uninjured but was left shaken.

The car was eventually found abandoned on School Avenue, near the junction with Moore Street East in Whelley – reported by a neighbour who said it had been there for around a week.

The offender with the knife was white, 5ft 8”in tall, with a skinny to medium build, spoke with a local Wigan accent, wearing black, scruffy clothing with his hood up and plain black woolly gloves.

The second man was only described as white, and was said to be wearing all black clothing.

The police are now asking for anyone who may have seen the two offenders abandoning the Vauxhall Corsa to get in touch and help identify them or give a description.

Call police on 0161 8567129 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
