Soccer Saturday legend Chris Kamara will host a motor-powered face-off between Manchester’s legion of football fans as the race for Premier League supremacy moves into top gear.
The event, hosted by Auto Trader, will see Manchester and its two most famous tribes, use social media to turn a car – currently in pristine white – either red or blue, in preparation for the new Premier League season.
Joined by football commentator and icon Kamara, two highly trained technicians – one representing each side – will colour the car based entirely on tweets submitted to @Autotrader_UK using the hashtags #Red or #Blue.
“It sounded like a good opportunity and a bit of fun with this car that’s going to be sprayed, so it should be good,” Kamara told MM.
Kamara will be stopping off to meet fans before heading off to London to cover QPR v Hull on the opening day of the Premier League.
“The people are really nice, they’ve sort of bought in to the fella they see on soccer Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
“Life’s not a chore any more. Well it never has been a chore but it’s certainly a pleasure!”
The brand new Toyota GT 86, which will be given away to one lucky fan, will be stationed in Spinningfields between 1-2 on Friday, August 15.
After the hour is up, the colour with the most tweets will be declared the winner.
One twitter user who supported the winning colour will be randomly chosen to win the vehicle
The vehicle will then be professionally coloured entirely in either ‘sky’ blue or ‘devil’ red before being delivered to the lucky winner.
The stunt follows the opening of a new office for 500 employees in Manchester’s First Street.

“Now we have a major office in Manchester it’s time for people to decide which side they are on. On August 15, the people will decide once and for all who the biggest team in the city is.”
