Nominations have opened for the Lesbian and Gay Foundations Homo Hero Awards.
The award ceremony celebrates groups, individuals and organisations that have made a valuable contribution to the LGBT community.
Winners will be announced on October 7 which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the campaign for homosexual equality in Manchester.

“Every day, we see so many positive contributions to our community and the Homo Heroes Awards are a chance to celebrate the important work of those who share our values of innovation, diversity, excellence, fairness, integrity and engagement.”
The Homo Hero awards provide a brilliant opportunity to celebrate those who challenge homophobia and/or biphobia, improve the quality of life for those in the community.
Awards are split over eight different categories which range from Volunteer of the Year, LGBT Venue of the Year and Community Champion of the Year.
When nominations close the top three nominees for each award category will be put forward for a public vote from July 30.
One of the awards, the Alan Turing Memorial Award, will be decided by a panel.
Previous winners have included actor Sir Ian McKellen, The Co-operative’s Respect Network, Richmond Tea Rooms, Rt. Rev. Nigel McCulloch and Greater Manchester Police.
Last year Reverend Hayley Matthews, who works with all communities in order to challenge prejudice and empower individuals, won the Community Champion award.
PC Ian Ashton from Lancashire Police picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award for his tireless commitment to the community, and his support and knowledge of LGBT issues.
