Three teens armed with claw hammers robbed a Lower Broughton bank in broad daylight before escaping on bicycles.
At around 12.50pm on Thursday May 30, three youths, whose descriptions place them between 15 and 18-years-old, went into the Salford Credit Union on Great Clowes Street.
One of them jumped onto the counter and climbed over the security glass into the cashier area while the other two men stayed in the hall.
The terrified cashier locked himself in another room – meaning the robber could only take a small amount of cash from behind the counter before climbing back over the security glass and pedalling with the others to their escape.
Detective Constable Lucy Pearson said it was fortunately the cashier was able to lock the security door in time so only a small amount of cash was taken.
“Despite this, the men were carrying claw hammers which would have been extremely intimidating,” she added.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen these three men on bikes around the time of the incident to call police.”
The first man who jumped over the counter is described as a slim white man around 5ft 2in tall aged between 15 and 17-years-old.
He was wearing a dark balaclava covering his face, a light grey hoodie and light grey jogging bottoms. He was carrying a claw hammer.
The second man is described as a slim white man around 5ft 6in tall and aged 17 or 18-years-old.
He had a scarf covering most of his face and was wearing a dark grey hoodie with light grey stripes. He was also carrying a claw hammer.
The third man stood by the door and was wearing a dark top.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
