A sketch of a man who was found in Pomona Docks, believed to be linked to the discovery of religious documents a month earlier, has been released by police in the hope that the public will be able to identify him.
Officers were called to the docks in Trafford on Sunday March 17, and underwater search teams found a body wearing North Face long johns and a black t-shirt.
Police have connected the discovery to clothing and documents found on February 16, close to where the body was found.
A light blue Montane fleece, brown cord trousers and black lace up boots were spotted on February 16, alongside three religious documents entitled Knowledge and Understanding, Wholeness and Being and Becoming.
The books contained self-compiled quotes and extracts from a variety of online sources.
MYSTERY: Police sketch of man found in canal and fleece found month earlier
Detective Sergeant Andy Reynolds based at Stretford Police Station said: “We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death but we are still working to establish what led up to his body being found in the canal.”
Police are keen to identify the man and are hoping that the photo, as well of images of the man’s clothing, will help.
The man is described as being between his 20s and 40s, of medium build and had short brown hair.
DS Reynolds said: “We need to identify who the man is and to let any potential family members or loved ones know that this man has died. If you recognise the sketch and believe you may know who this is, then please contact us. Do you know anyone who may have previously worn this type of clothing? If you do, we are keen to hear from you.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7655/7686 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
