A random one-punch Oldham assault in broad daylight has left a man needing surgery for ‘serious facial injuries’.
The man was knocked out cold after a single blow from the unknown stranger floored him at 2.45pm on St Mary’s Way last Thursday.
The unknown attacker fled immediately after the attack on the busy road and escaped down Rock Street towards the town centre.
Detective Constable Andrew Swettenham said: “This appears to be a random and entirely unprovoked attack in broad daylight.
“It happened at a very busy time of day on a busy road in full view of passing motorists and pedestrians.”
Police have described the suspect as white, in his early 30s, tall with a skinny build and shaven head. He also spoke English and had blue eyes.
“I would like to ask anyone who saw the attack and might have additional information to come forward and help us trace this cowardly individual,” said DC Swettenham
Police have also identified possible witnesses to the daylight attack and are seeking one pair in particular to assist them with their inquiries.
DC Swettenham said: “I am particularly interested in tracing a couple who were seen arguing nearby on Rock Street at the time of the offence.”
