Wanted: bookish babies! Manchester Central library seeks newborn tot pictures to mark March 22 launch day

Manchester Central Library bosses are asking Manchester’s parents to submit photos of their new arrivals for artwork to mark this month’s relaunch.

The library reopens its doors on March 22 and Manchester City Councill wants couples who become new parents on the same day to share their good news.

The date will coincide with the re-opening of the city’s 80-year-old landmark, following four years of restoration which aim to enhance and improve the library’s myriad of original features.

The submitted photos of hours-old tots will be used to create a commemorative collage that will feature in the newly refurbished library.

The work of art will celebrate the shared landmark day of Manchester’s families and culture-lovers.

Manchester City Council Executive Member for Culture and Leisure Rosa Battle said: “I can’t think of a better way of celebrating a new beginning for the library.

“And those children born on March 22 will be part of the next generation and hopefully share a love of reading and books.”

The photo collage of the newest additions to Manchester’s ever-growing family will feature alongside the library’s new exhibitions, performance space and the most up-to-date technology – making the renovated building one of the country’s leading libraries.

The central library will also be home to specialist libraries for business, music and children as well as the new Archives+ Centre, which will allow members of the public to access information about local or family history.

Manchester parents-to-be, who would like to send a picture of their child born on March 22, can do so by emailing an image to the design team at Manchester City Council at [email protected].

Pictures should include the name of the parents or the baby with a line giving permission for the image to be used within a commemorative artwork.

Additional details such as the time of birth on March 22 can also be provided as well as the baby’s weight, gender and where the baby was born.
