Unlucky for some? Manchester’s Hard Rock celebrates 13th birthday with award and smokehouse menu launch

By Tom Paterson

The number 13 may be unlucky for some but Manchester’s Hard Rock Café shrugged off superstitious notions by celebrating its 13th anniversary in style yesterday with the launch of their ‘Southern and Smoked Month’.

The restaurant is encouraging customers to sink their teeth into a smokin’ hot selection of chicken, pulled pork and ribs which are all cured and cooked in-house.

And it was a double celebration as the Manchester team picked up the Top of the Rock award for a second time in recognition of strong restaurant performance levels.

General Manager Jonathan O’Reilly, who has been with the restaurant for 10 years, said: “For me it’s a great way for us to celebrate putting a brand into a city like Manchester but also Manchester supporting a brand like the Hard Rock.

“A lot of the cafés are in key cities, but Manchester is a completely different type of property and venue because it’s mainly local driven.

“For me the best thing about the 13th anniversary is just to help celebrate the staff who have worked tirelessly for 13 years and also for us to say thank you to the people who continue to support us in the city – we couldn’t do it without them.”

In recognition of their branch’s success Hard Rock Manchester was awarded a specially-made guitar – something the staff loved so much that they had its likeness recreated in a bespoke birthday cake by Bite Me Cakes & Bakes.

Speaking of their success, Jonathan explained: “It was based on many different elements from performance to customer satisfaction to money taken through the till but there are a lot of different indicators, it’s not just about being the busiest café in the world and we very honoured to have won it.”
