A thief threatened an elderly woman with violence on Monday after breaking into her Salford home, ransacking her belongings and stealing ‘sentimental’ jewellery that she was wearing.
The incident happened between 4.30am and 4.40am when the woman was awoken by an intruder rifling through her possessions on the bottom floor of her home in Briar Hill Avenue, Little Hulton.
The thief, disturbed by the woman, then demanded money from her and said that he would hurt her if she did not comply.
She said that she had no money but was forced to hand over four gold rings and a gold necklace before he fled.
Detective Sergeant Peter Morris from Salford division, said: “This man broke into an elderly woman’s home in the middle of the night. She woke up to hear him riffling through her rooms and searching through her personal belongings.
“When she disturbed him, he threatened her and demanded money and stole the jewellery she was wearing.
“This jewellery holds a great deal of sentimental value to the victim and she is desperate to get it back.
“If you have been offered jewellery under suspicious circumstances please phone the police straight away.”
He stole four gold rings with diamonds on and one also had an oval aquamarine stone and one had an amber stone. He also stole a thin gold link necklace before running out of the house.
The offender is described as a young man, very tall and thin, he was dressed all in black with his eyes showing and he wore black gloves.
He spoke with a Salford accent and was carrying a torch and a screw driver.
DS Morris added: “I would again urge anyone who has information about this robbery to come forward. No matter how insignificant you think it might be, it could be absolutely crucial information that will help us find the offender so please come forward.”
