A Crumpsall neighbour from hell who racially abused the husband of a heavily pregnant woman and threatened to ‘chop his head off’ has been handed an Asbo.
David Brown, 59, of Eadington Street, repeatedly shouted vile racist remarks to his Asian next door neighbour, threatening to kill him and his family as well as threatening to behead him.
The Asbo bans Brown from approaching, contacting or using offensive language to anyone on the street as well as prohibiting him from attempting to enter the couple’s house, garden or driveway.
Brown can be sent to prison if he breaks any conditions of the order which lasts until September 2015.
Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council’s executive member for neighbourhood services, said: “Earlier this year, the City Council, police and other bodies launched Manchester’s hate crime strategy, making it clear that racist abuse of any kind will not be tolerated in this diverse city.
“Nobody should have to live in fear or put up with this kind of threatening language and we have stepped in to make sure his neighbours now feel safe.
“I would like to urge anyone living near this man to be aware that this Asbo is in place and to contact the police immediately if they see him breaking any of the order’s conditions.”
In a statement, Brown’s victim told Manchester Magistrates Court about an incident which happened in June as his wife was due to give birth.
Brown returned home drunk at 10pm and started shouting abuse from the street, saying he intended to chop the man’s head off, challenged the man to come out into the street and fight him, and even threatened to kill the man and his family.
He also shouted abuse at other people living on the street, at one point shouting ‘I’ll kill the lot of you’. Brown was then arrested.
The couple, who have a three-year-old son as well as their newborn, have experienced racist verbal abuse and threats from Brown, who lives in a ground floor flat adjoining their living room.
Brown banged on the couple’s front door late at night in May, and when they refused to answer he went inside his flat and shouted racist insults at them through the wall until around 11.30pm.
The family were also woken up at 3.30am last December when Brown started shouting racist insults at them through the wall.
