A driver who may have caused a crash which broke a man’s legs, knee caps and ankle, as well as seriously injuring two others including a boy, 12, is wanted by Manchester police.
A 60-year-old man was driving a Fiat Punto along Graver lane in Newton Heath just before 6.55pm yesterday when a black Ford Mondeo crossed into his path and crashed into him head-on.
The passengers in the Punto – a 47-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy – were taken to hospital while the driver in the Ford got out of the car and ran off.
Sergeant Mark Thomas from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “From what we have been told, we believe the Ford was driving in the opposite direction to the Punto and for some reason, crossed into their path, causing a head on collision.”
The man suffered broken legs, knee caps, a broken ankle and chest injuries.
The 12-year-old boy suffered broken legs and the woman was left with a broken shoulder and cracked ribs.
Police are now appealing for information on the crash, particularly looking for the driver who fled from the scene.
Sergeant Thomas said: “I would ask the driver of the Mondeo or anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us as soon as possible. We are determined to catch who is responsible but we need the public’s help in tracing them.”
Anyone with information should phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
