A man has been killed following a crash on the M60 near Heaton Park and police are warning motorists to avoid the area.
The incident occurred at around 6.30am this morning when a red Skoda collided with a black BMW at junction 19 of the motorway clockwise.
The man driving the Skoda sadly died at the scene.
GMP Inspector Tony Allt, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the man’s family at this tragic time.
“We are working to piece together the events leading up to the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and speak to us.”
Traffic is currently being diverted across the Middleton Road roundabout over the M60.
This is causing heavy congestion on the motorway and the Heaton Park area.
A number of people who were travelling on the M60 this morning paid their respects via Twitter.
Avoid the #M66 and #M60 this morning if you can. Not moved much past Ramsbottom in over half an hour. Bad accident. Very sad 🙁
