‘Cowardly’ Salford pub attack: Man’s skull fractured after being repeatedly kicked in head while unconscious

By Marios Papaloizou

A man has suffered a fractured skull after he was repeatedly kicked in the head as he lay unconscious on the ground during a ‘cowardly’ attack in Salford.

The 23-year-old man was attacked after he walked away from the Weavers Arms in Swinton towards Station road with a 19-year-old friend at about 1.30am on January 11.

The pair were approached by a gang of men who chased them back towards the pub before assaulting them.

Detective Constable Steve Robinson, said: “Having viewed the CCTV of this incident I can say this is a totally cowardly attack by a group of men who continued to assault a seriously injured man as he lay defenceless on the ground.

“The area was extremely busy and there were a lot of people leaving the pub when this happened and I need to speak to them.

The 19-year-old was taken to hospital and treated for bruising to his face while the other man received treatment to a fractured skull.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until February 5 pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 5345 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
