Three men assaulted and brandished a knife at the owner of an Oldham takeaway late on Tuesday night in a pre-planned attack.
The offenders lay in wait outside a takeaway in Woodstock Green before pouncing at around 11:15pm.
The takeaway owner was struck on the head from behind repeatedly and as he tried to turn round he saw the assailant had a knife before being hit again.
The offender shouted: “Give me the money.”
The victim was heading for his car at the back of the takeaway after locking up for the evening when the attack occurred and the takeaway’s chef was also attacked by a second offender.
Detective Constable Simon Moyles of Oldham Division said: “This was a violent attack and the offenders had actually lain in wait for the victims, making it even more sinister.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the attach or who recognises the descriptions of the offenders to come forward and speak to us.”
The two aggressors were described as wearing dark clothing with a scarf covering their face and hoods covering their heads.
The first man is thought to be mixed race, in his early 20s and slim while the second attacker was described as being of stocky build.
The offenders fled, along with a third man, down an alleyway in the direction of the Spur.
