Trafford officially has the second best primary schools in the country according to league tables published today by the Department for Education.
Primary schools in Trafford reached 74% of pupils achieving a level four ‘good’ rating in reading, writing and maths after tough new targets were brought in this year.
Trafford fared 11% better than the national average of 63% and was second behind Richmond upon Thames at 77%.
A spokesman for the DfE said: “This government brought in higher primary-school floor targets with one aim in mind – to drive up standards.
“Schools respond to this challenge. The floor standards we introduced were tougher and performance is improving. Heads, teachers and pupils deserve credit for meeting the challenge head on.”
The figures show how pupils performed in public examinations.
Elsewhere on the tables five Greater Manchester primary schools were listed in the bottom 200.
Alt Primary School Oldham was the lowest ranking school in Greater Manchester with just 35% of pupils achieving a ‘good’ rating – a 7% drop from 2012.
Similarly, Bredbury Green Primary School Stockport achieved just 42% achieving a ‘good’ rating.
However, despite being 21% below the national average the school achieved an outstanding in every area of its last ofsted report in 2012.
Vale View Primary School Stockport, St Edmunds RC Primary School Manchester and Clifton Primary School Manchester made up the rest of the county’s under-performing schools.
