Swinton man needs plastic surgery after attack by masked gang – one thug wore ‘John Lennon glasses’

By Danielle Wainwright

A Swinton man was ‘brutally’ attacked by a masked gang on Monday leaving him with severe cuts to the head and face that required plastic surgery.

The incident occurred at around 6.15pm on Victoria Avenue when a 29-year-old man was assaulted by a gang of balaclava-clad men in the rear garden of his home.

The victim suffered a serious injury to his ear and sustained deep cuts to the left side of his face and right wrist.

The man was taken to hospital and was referred to plastic surgery for further treatment.

Detective Constable Gary Graham, based at Swinton, said: “We are still in the early stages of piecing together the exact circumstances, but what we do know is that this was a brutal assault on one man by a number of attackers.

“The victim has been left with some significant injuries to his face and head and is now receiving hospital treatment.

“There was a significant police presence at the scene last night and I have no doubt that there will be people out there with information.”

One of the offenders was described as being around 6ft tall, with a slim build, wearing dark clothing and what were described as John Lennon-type glasses. He would have significant blood staining on his clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
