Young directors are thriving in the Greater Manchester town of Cheadle.
Cheadle was shown to be above UK average for the number of young directors appointed according to a recent study.
The figures, based on the first quarter of 2013, showed that 8% of directors appointed in the Greater Manchester town were 25 or younger compared to a nationwide average of 6%.
Justin Garner, 23, is the managing director of his own company JG Supplements based in Cheadle.
He registered the nutritional supplements company at the beginning of the year after realising he wanted to be his own boss.
Mr Garner told MM: “When you work twice as hard within a company you don’t always get twice the rewards.
“I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I would never have got the chance of becoming a director at this age within a company.”
Since setting up on his own Justin has at times struggled with people failing to take him seriously as a young director but still believes he made the right decision to go it alone.
He added: “Without a doubt, I would encourage other young entrepreneurs to set up on their own.
“Of course I have had setbacks, but you just have to stick with it. At times it was tricky but I worked hard and now the company is really doing well.”
“The economy needs start-up businesses like JG to get back on its feet.”
The town also edged aged of the UK average for the appointment of female directors, in the study carried out by company formation agents Duport.co.uk.
Between January and March, 29% of directors appointed in the Greater Manchester town were women compared to a 28% national average.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk Peter Valaitis said: “A rise in young directors and female directors is great news for the local economy of Cheadle.
“It promises a diverse business community that is likely to generate fresh, new ideas.”
