A Blackley man has been jailed after raping a victim repeatedly in his car while remarking, ‘how long do you think I will get for raping you?’
Joseph Doyle, 32, of Rushcroft Court, Blackley, was sentenced to nine years in prison at Manchester Crown Square.
On February 16, 2015, Doyle picked up a woman in his car on Derby Street, Cheetham Hill and drove to a nearby car park.
Doyle then told her that he was going to rape her and threatened to kill her if she tried to resist him or attempted to run.
But after being raped a number of times, she managed to escape.
Detective Constable Carla Deighton of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “Joseph Doyle knew exactly what he was going to do when he picked up his victim before driving her to an empty car park where he subjected her to a horrendous attack.
“I would like to pay tribute to the victim for the braveness she showed in escaping from such a terrifying situation and taking quick action to call the police.”
According to reports, Doyle’s initial plan was to rob the woman, but she told him she didn’t have any money.
He then told her that he was going to rape her instead.
He raped her a number of times and at one point he remarked: “How long do you think I will get for raping you?”
Doyle was arrested within minutes at a petrol station in Cheetham Hill after she escaped and called the police.
Doyle was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life after being found guilty of three counts of rape.
DC Deighton added: “That phone call and the assistance she has given throughout the investigation has helped us to take a dangerous man off the streets and I hope the sentence passed here today will give her some closure.
“If you or someone you know has been raped or sexually assaulted, we encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police or a support agency so you can get the help and support available.”
