By Danielle Wainwright

A homeowner was rushed to hospital yesterday after attempting to fend off thieves stealing his prized Mercedes in Stockport.

The 53-year-old man ran out of his house on Syddall Avenue at around 2.15am on Wednesday to prevent the offenders from taking his grey Mercedes C180.

He suffered a fracture to his leg and considerable grazing as he tried to stop the car from being driven off.

The thieves were able to get away but the car was later recovered in Gleneagles Road, Herald Green.

Detective Chief Inspector Julian Snowball from Stockport Division said: “A man is now recovering in hospital after trying to stop offenders stealing his car this morning.

“It is extremely fortunate that he was not more seriously injured during this incident.

“I would ask for anyone who believes they have witnessed anything connected to this incident, or if they have any information that could assist police in identifying the offenders, to please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at Cheadle Heath police station on 0161 856 9770 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
