Manslaughter charges have been brought against five young people following the death of Simon Brass whose body was found in the canal near Manchester’s Gay Village last summer.
A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as drowning, but now five people from Greater Manchester – including a 15-year-old boy – have been charged with manslaughter and conspiracy to rob.
Simon’s body was discovered shortly after 1.50pm on Saturday June 9 when police were called to Canal Street.
Paul Creedy, 20, of Heatcote Road, Gorton, Kieron Murray, 22, of Eastern Bypass, Openshaw and Jack Smith, 18, of no fixed abode have all been charged.
Leah Garner, 20, of no fixed abode and a 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have also been charged.
They all appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ court between April 1 and April 11.
