A man has died after a Porsche ran him down in Chorlton last night before it was later found burnt out nearby.
The 26-year-old man was run down by a black Porsche Panamera, registration number MX10 OBK, at around 10.20pm while crossing Wilbraham Road, near to the Spread Eagle pub.
The driver of the Porsche did not stop and left the victim dying in the road.
He was admitted to hospital in a critical condition but died of his injuries this afternoon.
Police have now arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The Porsche was recovered after being found burned out and abandoned half a mile away from the incident on Brookburn Road, Chorlton.
The damage to the four-year-old vehicle was so extensive that only the frame of the chassis of the sportscar, £64,000 when new, remained after the blaze had been extinguished.
Police are continuing to examine the remains of the vehicle for evidence.
Investigating Officer Sergeant Lee Westhead said: “We are continuing to investigate this collision where a young man has tragically lost his life.
“We would ask anyone with information to contact police urgently.
“A dedicated team of specialist officers are now investigating this collision.”
Anyone who knows the identity of the driver, witnessed the collision or has any information, should contact the police immediately on 0161 856 4741 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
