Police release CCTV images after men carrying axes and knives rob two convenience stores in Wigan

Greater Manchester Police have released CCTV images after two McColls stores were robbed in Wigan on Sunday, July 30.

At around 3.30pm, police received reports of an armed robbery at a shop on Newton Road in Lowton.

Two men, armed with an axe, entered the premises before using the weapon to threaten the shop assistant and then forcibly open the till.CCTV: The image shows a man entering the shop in Hindley

Then at around 10.50pm, officers were called to reports of another incident at a store on Atherton Road in Hindley.

Two men threatened the store assistant with a knife, before opening the cash register and running off with its contents in an unknown direction.

Today, police released CCTV images of men they wish to speak to in connection with the incidents.

Detective Constable Jessica Samouelle of GMP’s Wigan Borough, said: “The assistants at these McColls stores have been left in shock after being threatened with weapons to open the stores’ tills.”

The constable added: “I can only hope that someone recognises the men in the images, in order to help with our investigation.”
