A father who was celebrating a birthday party with his wife and children was brutally smashed in the head with a brick on the way to a nearby pub in Gorton last weekend.
The 42-year-old had left the party and was walking along Turner Street at 8.30pm on June 1 with two of his friends when they became involved in a row with the offender.
The victim was dragged into the row and attempted to calm the situation.
The attacker eventually walked off but grabbed a brick and chased the victim onto Chapman Street, launching the weapon at his head with such force that it broke in two.
He then picked up one half of the brick and struck the victim again, before kicking him in the face and body up to eight times.
Detective Constable Alex Vernon said: “This man was subjected to a sustained and brutal attack with a weapon and in some senses is fortunate to have not suffered more serious head injuries such was the ferocity of this brick assault.
“We need to find the man who committed this savage assault so he cannot harm anyone else.
“I would therefore appeal to anyone who has information about the attack itself to come forward.”
The victim sustained a head injury, a chipped front tooth, a bruised shoulder and a broken finger.
His attacker is described as black, about 5ft 10in tall, with black hair and aged between 20 and 30-years-old. He was of a slim to athletic build and wearing light coloured trousers with black pleats on the front.
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 3832 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
