Predatory thieves cornered two people in a Salford subway and attacked them for their iPhones yesterday morning.
At around 11am, a 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were walking in the subway that runs from Bolton Road towards the roundabout at Pendleton when they realised three men were following them.
The man was then punched and the woman was slammed against a wall, before falling to the floor.
Both their iPhones were stolen before the offenders fled towards East Lancashire Road disrupting traffic.
Detective Sergeant Julie Connor, based at Swinton police station, said: “These men waited until their victims were under cover and out of view before they launched a vicious attack.”
One man is described as being white, in his late teens, 5ft 8in tall, of large build and had a round face with freckles. He wore grey tracksuit trousers, blue jacket and black trainers.
The second man was white, of medium build, 5ft 8in tall and wore a grey hooded top with the hood up as well as grey tracksuit trousers.
The third is described as white, had black hair, wore grey tracksuit trousers, a black hooded top and black trainers.
DS Connor said: “I would ask anyone who may have seen these men running away from the scene to contact us. Both victims have been left extremely shaken by their ordeal however we are committed to finding these men and bringing them to justice.”
