Miracle material graphene is soon to become a regular feature on cosmetics counters across the country after Yves Saint Laurent commissioned it as the key ingredient in their new mascara.
Hailed as the new wonder on the science and technology market, graphene was first isolated by Professor Novoselov and University of Manchester colleague Andre Geim in 2004.
The mascara is generating a lot of buzz from fashionistas for its quality , with the French company crediting the honeycombed-structured carbon crystal for its lengthening and curling effects.
International general manager of Yves Saint Laurent Beauté at L’Oréal Stephan Bezy said: “The way it’s dispersed is ultra thin, ultra resistant and ultra bendable, as well.
“What’s interesting is that the polymers are transparent, so they allow a perfect dispersion of the pigment.
“It creates a very even, homogenous colour film. The mascara is very buildable, but in a very clean way.”
The product is described as being of ‘long-lasting volume and intense colour’ by the Paris fashion house and as graphene is stronger than diamond, yet more flexible than rubber, it isn’t hard to see why companies are keen to use it.
Graphene is the world’s strongest material and is hailed as the future of scientific development, yet one sheet, made up of pure carbon, weighs only 0.77mg.
An Yves Saint Laurent spokesperson said: “The ultra fine texture reproduces the flexibility and resistant properties of graphene making it possible to lengthen and curl the lashes from roots to tips and ensure a 24-hour hold.”
Model of the moment Cara Delevingne is the face of the new campaign, and beauty bloggers across the country are unanimous on the verdict on the graphene-filled product.
Leanne Bayley, Picture Researcher for ELLE UK said: “I loved the false lash effect it gave but it’s not for everyday use.
“It’s quite high maintenance with the removal process and having to check for smudging all night.
“But because the overall look was so amazing I think it’s worth the cons. I had so many compliments about my lashes, with lots of people asking if they were false. Result!”
Fashion blogger London Beauty Queen said: “It works for day, it works for night, it works for a quick coating, it works for full-on smokey lashes, I don’t need another mascara in my makeup bag as this enables me to create whatever look I want.”
