Popular manager of Manchester Indian restaurant dies after dispute with customer over unpaid bill

A much-loved restaurant manager died of a suspected heart attack on Friday after an argument with a customer.

Mohammed Asif, 45, who helps run curry restaurant Akbar’s on Liverpool Street, died in hospital after a row over an unpaid bill.

He collapsed shortly before 11pm and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

He has been bailed until a date in January.

The restaurant posted on their Facebook page: “Sadly our beloved Manchester manager Mohammed Asif passed away in the restaurant last Friday.

“Our deepest sympathies, prayers and condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues. We will all miss you.”

The restaurant remained closed over the weekend but will reopen tonight from 5pm.
