Battle of the brides: Lesbian couples in running for Manchester magazine’s Wedding of the Year award

Two lesbian couples are in the running (down the aisle) for the title of Manchester’s Wedding of the Year.

Amanda Gettins and Faye Whittaker and Louise David and Shantel Walker are two of four couples battling it out in the competition run by Manchester Wedding Magazine.

The couple who had the best best day of their lives will not just receive the Wedding of the Year title but also a luxury mini-break at the Saddleworth Hotel.

The prize includes dinner for two at the three AA Rosette Bakers Restaurant, breakfast on both mornings, and a bottle of bubbly in the room.

Amanda and Faye, who held their special day at The Lowry in July this year, went for a colour scheme of green and gold.

Amanda said: “The invites were tickets which had to be ripped off, the tables were split between Manchester City and Liverpool FC players and the table plan was a stadium plan.”

Louise and Shantel were wed at Mere Hall in Bolton, followed by a reception in Radcliffe.

Louise’s father passed away two years ago so could not be there to walk her down the aisle but she made sure he was there in a small and sentimental way.

She said: “I had some of his ashes placed in a red velvet bag which I carried with me as my mum walked me down the aisle.”

Lisa Little and Daniel Carter, who are also up for the prize, married in May 2014.

To celebrate their love they held a quiz and had their favourite Japanese rock music played on the big day.

Last but not least are competitors May Ceri Fenton and Ankur Bhatnagar, who married with a colour scheme of pink, cream and gold.

The couple held both an Indian wedding and an English celebration.

Ms Fenton said: “I wanted the day to feel very romantic, which was reflected in the colours and the flowers.”

The final will be held in spring next year. You can vote for your favourite by clicking here.
