Friendly meet-up turns into gang rape for ‘traumatised’ Manchester teen – police arrest two 16-year-olds

By Danielle Wainwright

A friendly meeting descended into horror on Monday as a teenager was gang raped by a group of boys in a North Manchester park.

The 18-year-old victim walked to Debdale Park on Hyde Road at around 8.30am with a youth she had arranged to meet, when they were met by the youth’s friends.

Feeling uncomfortable, the girl left but was followed by some of the group who then pushed her to the floor and raped her in a secluded area.

The victim was able to flee and spoke to a woman who asked if she was alright after the offence between 10pm and 10.30pm.

Two 16-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of rape and released on police bail until October 17 and October 18.

Detective Inspector Simon Davies from the Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “This was obviously a traumatic experience for the victim and specially trained officers are now helping her through her ordeal.

“Detectives are particularly interested to speak to the woman who spoke to the victim after the offence had happened.

“She spoke to her on Sandown Street near to its junction with Marchioness Street, Abbey Hey and she is described as being in her 50’s with short grey hair and wearing a long coat.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
