‘Help give cancer the cold shoulder’: Manchester Winter Run bigger and better in 2016

Another Christmas has come and gone and we haven’t had a hint of snow.

If you haven’t got the spare cash (or remaining holiday) to hit the slopes this winter then fear not, The Cancer Research UK Manchester Winter Run is back.

On February 28 runners will see out the last month of winter in style by taking to the streets of Manchester in a frosty and fun 10k to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Clive Sanders, Head of Events at Cancer Research UK, said: “Every day, nearly 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West, so we need as many people as possible to enter the Winter Run and help give cancer the cold shoulder.

“As a New Year challenge, it’s a great opportunity for people to sign up and commit to get fit, or for more seasoned runners to boost their motivation to carry on through the cold winter months – all in aid of good cause.”

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever!

On arrival, runners and spectators will be greeted by friendly snowmen equipped with jetpack snow machines blasting a snowfall over the event village for a special wintery welcome.

Once the race is underway, taking the route past Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, runners will be greeted with a welcome break of a ski themed drinks station for that all important boost, before passing through a giant snow zone on route, where they will be covered head to toe in snowflakes.

So even if it doesn’t actually snow this year the Cancer Research UK Manchester Winter Run will guarantee a winter wonderland.

Further along the route, runners can join in with a brand new penguin party.

The penguins will encourage and motivate runners, with the penguin party also being the perfect spot for spectators to enjoy music and see their friends and family pass by with Key 103 Radio providing the music to help keep everybody moving.

Everyone’s favourite, the polar bears, are back for 2016 and will be encouraging people over the finish line with a much needed warming hug.

Not only will runners get a comforting polar bear cuddle, all finishers will also receive a medal to mark their achievement.

Places in the 2016 Cancer Research UK Manchester Winter Run are limited, with standard prices only available until Monday January 18.
