Tens-of-thousands raised for homeless at sleepout fundraiser

Sleepout at the Cathedral returned to Manchester.

Nearly 100 fundraisers slept in rain and near-freezing temperatures on the grounds of Manchester Cathedral to help Manchester’s homeless community.

The Sleepout at the Cathedral returned for the first time since the pandemic with 87 people braving the winter conditions.

The sleepout raised £37,564 for Manchester-based homeless charity The Booth Centre, which held its first sleepout event in 2011.

First-timer Paul said: “It really resonated with me as something that everyone should do once.

“If everyone did it once then maybe we’d have different reactions to homelessness, and be more creative in what we can do to help.”

That money covers the costs of three-months of free, hot breakfasts, lunches and dinners for anyone who needs them, on top of keeping the centre heated and open for half-a-year.
