Eccles RFC have just spent £36,000 renovating their club to make it more inclusive for women.
The club hope the modern changing rooms and social space will encourage more women and girls to play and watch the game.
It’s the latest investment in women’s rugby by the club, which two months ago changed the colour of all their team’s shorts from white to blue to reduce period anxiety.
The number of women and girls playing at the club has been steadily increasing over the past few seasons since the pandemic.
According to World Rugby, the number of women players worldwide has increased to almost 2million in 2023 – now accounting for more than a quarter of all players.
With the women’s rugby World Cup coming to Salford next year, officials at Eccles RFC are hoping to be a training base for one of the teams.
