Prime Minister joins world leaders to congratulate Donald Trump on election victory

The Prime Minister has congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his “historic election victory”.

Keir Starmer is among world leaders who have responded to the election victory.

Donald Trump is on course to win the US election, on course for victory in both the popular vote and the electoral vote – so far with 266 of the 270 college votes projected as Trump win’s.

Starmer said: “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”

The PM said he looks forward to working with Trump in the years to come as the Republican candidate is set to take power in 2025.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also congratulated Trump on the “impressive election victory”, hopeful the two can work towards peace in Ukraine.

Other world leaders, such as the Israeli Prime Minister and Hungarian Prime Minister have also congratulated Trump on his victory.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”
